INTRO:
WHY SAVE OUR HERITAGE SEEDS?
Presented by Jennifer Hutson of True North Seeds Trust, Inverary
DESCRIPTION:
Can you tell the difference between food produced from a
patented genetic seed or a Canadian heritage seed? Is there really a
purple carrot? Tomatoes are always smooth and round, right? Do you
cook heritage produce differently? Do you preserve a family heirloom
garden seed? Bring your seeds and family story to the lecture. Find
out the answers from an experienced grower and trained botanist.
DATE
: Wednesday, February 20, 2008 TIME
7 – 9 PM
LOCATION
: The Arthur Child Heritage Museum, 125
Water Street, Gananoque
BACKGROUND:
Celebrating the first anniversary of the Town of Gananoque
Municipal Heritage Committee and Heritage Week 2008 was the perfect
opportunity to work in conjunction with the local museum, The Arthur
Child Heritage Museum, to provide several heritage related events
during 18 – 22 February. Many other partnered events will continue
through the year.
SPEAKER
INFO: Jennifer Hutson, an experienced and committed botanist,
is saving Canada’s endangered garden heritage for future
generations by collecting, documenting, growing, conserving and
sharing heritage seeds, plants
and rare open-pollinated seeds, while educating people about the
