Currently the FHF has established the following
committees:
Awards Committee
In 1982 the Foundation decided to mark its tenth anniversary by
instituting a program of annual awards to the owners of buildings of
architectural / historic importance who had undertaken significant
restoration measures for the preservation of such structures. Annual
awards are presented to the nominated owners of the building with
secondary awards presented to the architect, contractor and tradesmen
who worked on the award-winning project.

Watch
Committee
The
Watch Committee currently is the most active and public of all the FHF
committees. The mandate of this committee is to assess the merits of all
applications to the City of Kingston, County of Frontenac and Loyalist
Township for demolition of all classifications of buildings
(residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, corporate) built
prior to 1930. This involves determining the significance of the
provenance and architectural style of each building and its importance
to the preservation of the architectural heritage of streetscape or
landscape where it stands. Structures built after 1930 may well merit
preservation on the basis of their provenance, architectural style, or
significance to their setting and can be considered, as well.
Activities include:
-
Monitor current properties under threat of demolition
and be aware of all threatened properties in the jurisdiction
-
Partner with community groups and owners to provide
expertise on historical research, appropriate community and government
contacts in times of threatened demolition or destruction of heritage
aspects of heritage buildings
-
Direct volunteers for specific projects to work on
research, media watch and presentations in a variety of communities
-
Compile a contact list of experts for research,
engineering and architectural advice in a variety of communities
